π Latest HSE Annual Work-Related Fatality Figures Released | Consensus HR

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has released its annual statistics for work-related fatal injuries, covering the period from April 2024 to March 2025.
β οΈ Key Statistics:
-
124 workers were killed in work-related incidents (a decrease of 14 compared to the previous year).
-
2,218 deaths from mesothelioma (a cancer linked to asbestos exposure) were recorded in 2023.
-
The construction industry accounted for 35 deaths, while agriculture, forestry and fishing followed with 23 fatalities.
-
Falls from height were the most common cause of worker deaths (35 in total).
-
92 members of the public also lost their lives in workplace-related incidents, though they were not at work themselves.

π The Mesothelioma Link: Long-Term Impact of Asbestos
The HSE also reported that 2,218 deaths were due to mesothelioma in 2023, showing a slow decline from previous years. These cases primarily relate to historical asbestos exposure, often before the 1980s. While the trend is decreasing, the disease remains a key concern in sectors such as construction, engineering, and shipbuilding.
